Silicone oil refers to linear organic polysiloxane with different viscosities based on Si-O-Si as the main chain, which is an oily liquid at room temperature. Because of its flexible molecular chain, it has many unique properties and is widely used in different industries.
Mold release and polishing
Silicone oil has good lubricity and anti-stick properties, and has been widely used as a mold release agent in rubber, plastic, metal casting, building materials and other product industries. Adding a small amount of silicone oil to the polishing agent can be used for polishing cars, leather, furniture, etc., making them have good gloss, long life, water resistance, pollution resistance, etc.
Surface treatment
Silicone oil has good waterproof performance and can be used for surface treatment of fabrics, paper, glass, building materials, etc. to improve their waterproofness, moisture resistance, softness, etc. Ceramics treated with silicone oil can be used as radio components, electrical and other fields to prevent the problem of poor insulation performance due to humid weather. Compared with other oil-sealed transformers, silicone oil-filled transformers are small in size and high in power, have a long life, and good electrical insulation properties. Using silicone oil instead of polychlorinated biphenyls as electrical oil can reduce energy consumption, increase operating temperature, and have good safety.

Compared to lubricity, silicone oil is not as good as general mineral oil, but silicone oil has better high and low temperature resistance, so it can be used for mechanical operation and bearings under high and low temperature conditions. In addition, silicone oil has high compressibility, small viscosity-temperature coefficient, and is less affected by temperature. It can be used as shockproof oil for various instruments. Silicone oil has good thermal oxidation stability, low vapor pressure, and low freezing point. It can be used in high vacuum diffusion pump oil. It has excellent high and low temperature performance and high radiation resistance and antioxidant properties.
By introducing different groups into the side chain and both ends of silicone oil, the base silicone oil can be modified. Long-chain alkyl can give silicone oil good compatibility and lubricity. Polyether can give silicone oil good water solubility and water dispersibility. Epoxy groups give certain reactivity and adsorption. Different modifiers and modification methods give silicone oil different characteristics, and its performance is more excellent and its use is more extensive.
