Organosiloxanes (also known as polysiloxanes) are a general term for a class of polymers that consist of silicon atoms and oxygen atoms alternately linked to form a skeleton, and different organic groups are then linked to silicon atoms. The structure of silicone resin contains both “organic groups” and “inorganic structures”. This special composition and molecular structure make it combine the characteristics of organic matter with the functions of inorganic matter. How does the silicone resin dissolve when it is used?

1.Physical method
(1) Heating: The viscosity of the silicone resin can be reduced by heating, making it easier to dissolve.Under normal circumstances, the higher the heating temperature, the faster the dissolution rate of the silicone resin. However, too high a temperature may cause the resin to decompose or oxidize, so it is necessary to control the appropriate heating temperature.

(2) Stirring: The contact area between the silicone resin and the solvent can be increased by stirring, so that it dissolves faster. The faster the stirring speed, the faster the dissolution speed. However, too fast stirring speed may lead to the production of air bubbles and affect the dissolution effect.

Chemical method

(1) Solvent method: Solvent method is one of the most commonly used methods for dissolving silicone resins.Commonly used solvents include benzene, toluene, acetone, ethyl acetate, etc. When using solvents, you need to pay attention to the amount and concentration of the solvent, as well as factors such as dissolution temperature and time.

(2) Curing agent method: For some silicone resins that are insoluble in ordinary solvents, a specific curing agent can be used to dissolve them. The curing agent can decompose and dissolve the resin by reacting with the active group in the resin. However, the use of curing agents requires strict control of the dosage and reaction conditions to ensure safety and effectiveness.

(3) Alkali solution method: Alkali solution method is a method that uses strongly alkaline substances such as sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide to react with silicon atoms in silicone resins under high temperature and high pressure to dissolve them in a solvent. The alkali solution method has the advantages of strong solubility, fast speed, and low solvent consumption, but it requires the use of high-pressure equipment and high equipment requirements.
