1. Composite Reinforcement
In thermoplastic and thermosetting resins such as mineral-filled phenolic, polyester, epoxy, PBT, and polyamide, adding IOTA 5580 can significantly improve the dry and wet flexural strength, compressive strength, and shear strength of reinforced plastics. It also enhances the wettability and dispersibility of fillers within the polymer [1].
2. Adhesives and Sealants
As an excellent adhesion promoter, IOTA 5580 is suitable for polyurethane, epoxy, nitrile, and phenolic adhesives and sealants. It improves pigment dispersibility and enhances adhesion to glass, aluminum, and ferrous metals.
3. Glass and Metal Treatment
Used as a component in sizing agents for glass/electronic cloth composites, or as a primer for glass and metal, it improves coating adhesion and corrosion resistance.
4. Foundry and Fiberglass Production
In resin sand casting, it enhances the bonding between resin and silica sand. In the production of fiberglass and mineral wool, adding it to phenolic binders improves moisture resistance and compression resilience [2].
IOTA 5580 is sensitive to moisture and should be stored in a well-ventilated and dry environment with the container tightly sealed to prevent dampness. It is strictly prohibited to store it together with acids, flammable materials, or reducing agents.
