The environmental protection characteristics of silicone rubber are reflected in multiple aspects of the whole life cycle of “raw material-processing-use-disposal”, which can be summarized into five points.:
1. The raw materials are non-toxic: the main chain is Si-O-Si, which does not contain potentially harmful substances such as plasticizers, halogens, and phthalates. It has passed FDA, LFGB, ROHS, SGS and other certifications, and can be directly in contact with food, drugs, and the human body.
2. Clean processing: Platinum-catalyzed addition reaction is used for vulcanized silicone rubber at room temperature. The vulcanization process does not release low molecular by-products, no solvent volatilization, and VOC emissions are less than 0.1%, which is much lower than the EU limit.
3. Safe to use: it is chemically inert, does not react with acids, alkalis, and salts, and does not age and crack after long-term exposure to ultraviolet rays and ozone; it is resistant to a wide temperature of -60℃ to 230℃, reducing the waste of resources caused by frequent replacement.
4. Biodegradable: Some bio-based silicone rubber can eventually degrade into silica and water in the natural environment, and does not produce microplastics.
5. Waste friendly: Only SiO₂, CO₂ and water vapor are generated after incineration, and there are no toxic gases such as dioxin and hydrogen halide; its high filling potential is also convenient for mechanical recycling.
