With the increasing demand for extreme-environment resistance, electrical insulation, and flexibility in advanced composite materials, epoxy phenyl silicone oil (IOTA Series) has emerged as a reactive organosilicone modifier for upgrading epoxy, polyurethane, and polycarbonate systems.
This solvent-free product is a diglycidyl-terminated phenyl trisiloxane, with typical specifications as follows:
-
Appearance: colorless to light yellow transparent liquid
-
Viscosity (25 °C): 15–30 cSt
-
Epoxy equivalent: 260–340 g/equ
-
Refractive index (25 °C): 1.474
Thanks to the epoxy groups at both molecular ends, this silicone oil can directly participate in curing or copolymerization reactions, becoming part of the polymer backbone rather than a physical blend. As a result, it delivers balanced performance improvements, including enhanced toughness, improved thermal cycling stability, increased resistance to moisture, weathering, and atomic oxygen, as well as maintained or improved dielectric properties. At the same time, reduced intermolecular forces help improve processability and interfacial compatibility.
The product has been successfully applied in aerospace coatings, high-reliability electronic encapsulants, flexible optoelectronic substrates, and specialty polyurethane elastomers. User feedback indicates that adding 5–15% of this silicone oil to epoxy systems significantly increases elongation at break, while keeping the reduction in glass transition temperature (Tg) under control.
It can be flexibly used by direct copolymerization with epoxy prepolymers, by reacting with isocyanates or chain extenders in polyurethane systems, or by molecular-level modification during polycarbonate synthesis or processing.
The product is supplied in 25 kg or 200 kg lined steel drums, transported as a non-hazardous material. Due to its reactivity, it should be stored tightly sealed and protected from moisture and reactive contaminants. The shelf life is 6 months when unopened.
As demand grows for resin systems that combine rigidity with flexibility in advanced packaging, flexible electronics, and space applications, IOTA epoxy phenyl silicone oil is becoming a key modifier in the design of high-performance polymers.
Note: This is a commercialized reactive organosilicone intermediate intended for professional use in polymer modification and should be applied under technical guidance.
