Sealant IOTA
SLT 3E SIV
Description:
IOTA SLT 3E SIV is a one-component
silicone sealant, acidic curing, which when exposed to atmospheric humidity,
forms a flexible and durable elastomeric seal which possesses good resistance to severe weathering conditions.
Examples
of applications:
IOTA SLT 3E SIV is a general purpose
silicone sealant which offers good performance on many different applications
where weather tightness is required:
Caulking doors and windows;
Shop windows, display cases, panels
and signs;
Plumbing, drains, guttering;
HVAC ducting;
Sealing of electrical conduit;
Boat maintenance;
DIY general purpose sealing.
Advantages:
IOTA SLT 3E SIV bonds strongly to
clean uncoated glass, ceramics and glazed or painted surfaces without the need
to prime.
The rheological properties of IOTA
SLT 3E SIV allow high rates of extrusion whilst the thixotropy enables the
sealant to be used on vertical jointing and underside applications
IOTA SLT 3E SIV presents good
stability to temperature variations (-30°C to+ 120°C), UV rays, rain, snow...

Processing:
Joint
dimensions :
The movement capability of sealants
as well as local regulations must be considered. Joint width should be twice
the depth.
Joint
preparation:
The joint faces to be bonded must be
clean, dry and free from dust, oil, grease, old sealant and any traces of
contaminant which may affect adhesion. Surfaces should be degreased with
solvent soaked cloth and then wiped with a clean cloth. To remove dust, use
oil-free compressed air.
Priming
For almost substrates, IOTA S 3E SIV A2 need not primers. Whether use primer or not when applied on special substrates,
prior test is recommended.
Sealant
application:
For good performance it is essential
that the sealant is only bonded to the two facing sides of the joint. To
achieve this install a backup material (closed cell polyethylene or open cell
polyurethane foam). Apply the sealant in a continuous operation making sure all
air pockets or voids are eliminated. Tool the sealant with light pressure to
spread the material against the joint surfaces.
This operation should be made with a
dry spatula before surface formation occurs.
Excess uncured sealant should be
wiped and cleaned with a commercial solvent, cured sealant can only be removed
by scraping (i.e. with a razor blade), or with a special silicone remover
product.
Limits
of use:
IOTA SLT 3E SIV must not be used on
sensitive surfaces which could react with the acetic acid which is released
during cure, nor should it be used on materials where migration of constituents
can take place, e.g. certain rubbers.
Avoid the use of IOTA SLT 3E SIV where there is possibilities of food contact.
IOTA SLT 3E SIV is not recommended
where abrasion or physical abuse will be encountered. For all uses in permanent
immersion, please consult us.
Colors: Translucent,
White. For other colors, please consult us.
Packaging:
IOTA SLT 3E SIV is available in 195
kg drums and 820 kg big bags.
Storage
and shelf-life:
IOTA SLT 3E SIV has a shelf life of
18 months, guaranteed by IOTA from its date of manufacture (the expiry date is
shown on the packaging), when stored at a temperature between –5°C to +50°C in
its original unopened packaging. After opening the product must be used
quickly.
