Photovoltaic modules that operate outdoors for more than 25 years, new-energy vehicles that can run safely for hundreds of thousands of kilometers—behind the rapid rise of these green industries stands an important “booster”: organosilicon materials. With their unique properties, they provide core reliability and durability for new-energy products, becoming an indispensable material for the green transition.

In the photovoltaic industry, organosilicon is the “guardian” that ensures module longevity. PV modules remain outdoors for years, exposed to intense UV radiation, sand and dust, heavy rain, and extreme temperature fluctuations. Silicone sealants serve as the first line of defense against these harsh conditions. They tightly bond the PV glass and backsheet, creating a seamless seal that effectively blocks moisture and dust from entering the module and prevents cell failure caused by humidity. At the same time, silicone coatings on the backsheet enhance weather resistance and reduce UV-induced aging, ensuring stable power generation throughout the module’s 25-year design life. Data shows that PV modules using high-quality silicone sealants have a failure rate more than 60% lower than those using ordinary sealing materials.

The new-energy vehicle industry is an even more important “battlefield” for organosilicon, where its consumption is 3–5 times that of traditional fuel vehicles. The battery pack— the “heart” of the vehicle—requires the highest level of safety, and silicone thermal-conductive potting compounds play a critical role. They densely fill the gaps between battery cells and quickly transfer heat generated during operation to the cooling system, preventing localized overheating and safety risks. In extreme cases, they can also form a flame-retardant barrier to stop fire propagation and enhance battery-pack safety.

In addition, the motor’s insulation coating, charging-pile sealing components, and vehicle waterproofing strips all rely on the unique properties of organosilicon. Motors operate at high temperatures, and silicone insulation coatings ensure stable dielectric performance. Charging piles are exposed outdoors year-round, and silicone seals resist rain, weathering, and UV aging. In short, the depth of organosilicon application directly determines the performance ceiling of new-energy products, injecting strong momentum into the development of the green industry.
